Recently I conducted an interview with one of freencaa09rosters.com’s contributors CDJ.  This interview will give you some insight into the direction and mission of our website.  In addition, this interview gives you important details on what you can do to obtain and promote the distribution of FREE NCAA 09 rosters.

JBHuskers: Hello CDJ, thanks for doing the interview for freencaa09rosters.com!  The first question for you would be when did you get your start in providing rosters for the general public?

CDJ:  I first started editing rosters back on NCAA 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube.  NCAA Football has always been my game of choice and having named rosters increases the value of the game infinitely.  Having a name to tie to the player makes it easier to create a ‘virtual rapport’ with not only my Dynasty team, but also my foes.  It’s easier to keep track of ‘John Doe’ than it is ‘QB #12.’

JBHuskers:  What drove you to put in the work to provide this free service?

CDJ:  As mentioned above, I feel it makes the game so much more enjoyable.  This is something I started doing for my own benefit, however back in 2002 I found a website (Utopia - ncaaStrategies.com) full of like-minded guys.  There was a whole group of GameCube gamers who wanted named rosters, so I told them to mail me their card and I would copy the file over for free.  Naming rosters is something I would do just for myself, but knowing there is this huge NCAA gaming community out there makes me glad to be able to share them.

JBHuskers: Why is it important to promote sites like freencaa09rosters.com?

CDJ:  It’s more than important, it’s ESSENTIAL that sites like freencaa09rosters.com get promoted.  Each year, too many people don’t do their homework.  They buy roster files from eBay or some illegitimate website.  People need to realize that it is against NCAA regulations to profit off of player likenesses.  If these eBay roster sellers and unethical websites continue to sell them, we risk the NCAA asking EA Sports to remove the roster editing feature.  There are a lot of guys who create free roster files.  In this day and age of the internet, no one has an excuse to be ignorant and pay for rosters.  Also, with the new EA Locker in NCAA 09 (PS3 & 360) it is so easy to get free rosters, that these illegitimate sellers should have no business coming in.

JBHuskers:  Please explain what the roster file you are working on for NCAA Football 09 will contain.

CDJ:  The file I work on will have just names, nothing more.  This way, when you play online the names will appear.

JBHuskers:  What are some of the online and offline methods one can use to obtain this year’s rosters?

CDJ:  If someone owns a PS3 or 360, they can use the new EA Locker feature, which can be found in-game - under the ‘Online’ section.  If they don’t have their console connected online, they can use a USB flash drive to download the PS3 rosters and 360 owners can use a XSata or Xchange 360 to place the files on a memory card and load that onto their console.

JBHuskers:  When can we expect these rosters to be available?

CDJ:  I always say to expect them no sooner than 14 days after the release of the game, however they are typically done before that time.  Editing rosters (and correctly at that) takes some time.  While this may be frustrating for those waiting to start a Dynasty, I recommend people use this time to get acquainted with the controls, playbooks, and maybe even play some Campus Legend.  By the time people get a true feel for the game down, the rosters are usually complete or close to it.

JBHuskers:  One final question.  What is the best way for anyone to spread the word that these rosters can be received for free?

CDJ:  The online NCAA gaming community has known for years how to get free rosters - what we ALL need to do is tell our friends, co-workers, acquaintances who do not browse and NCAA Football fan sites about EA Locker and these free sources.  After we tell them, we need them to tell their friends who do not go to fan sites.  We need the word to spread that NCAA Football rosters are not only easy to attain, but more importantly FREE.

JBHuskers:  Thank for taking time to interview for freencaa09rosters.com!
